Identity Theft |
 |
|
As identity theft continues to ensnare consumers, a rising number of insurers are offering services to policyholders that help reclaim one's identity and shut down fraudulent accounts. An estimated nine million adults in the U.S. were the victims of some form of identity theft last year. The resulting problems range from a few fraudulent credit-card charges to a years-long battle to straighten out the financial mess caused by thieves who use stolen information to create bogus accounts and run up thousands of dollars in bills. Some insurers are offering either ID-theft loss reimbursements or identity-restoration services as part of their homeowner and/or auto insurance policies.
