At a time of emergency, you may have no options on where you receive medical care.
But if you do have choices, Medicare is now offering easily accessible ratings—from one to five stars (five being the best)—for nearly 80% of all hospitals. (The remainder may be too new or small, or for other reasons failed to have submitted sufficient data.) Ratings are based upon more than 57 different criteria analyzed using both Medicare records and data from patients treated at each hospital.
So, the next time you are considering and/or discussing with your doctor procedures or treatment for which you do have the time to make choices, go to Medicare.gov and click on “Find hospitals.”
