With sunnier days and warmer weather we will begin to see more bicycles on the road. To help keep everyone safe on the roads here are some reminder tips for vehicle and bicycle safety.
– When riding a bicycle on roads or bike paths bicyclists are responsible for following the same rules and laws as motorists such as riding on the right side of the road as well as obeying traffic signs and signals.
– Motorists must be alert when driving (distracted driving link) but Cyclists should not assume that a motorist has see them.
– New York and many other states have laws requiring motorists to maintain a “safe distance” when passing bicycle riders. Please give bicyclists the space they need to stay safe.
The rules are meant to help reduce the number of bicycling accidents and make sure we are all safe while using the roads together.
