Thanksgiving is just around the corner and with it the official “kickoff” to the holiday season; things are about to get a little bit crazy(er). It is easy to get overwhelmed in our fast paced society so here are a few tips to help you develop a positive attitude, feel a bit less stressed and actually enjoy this holiday season.
Do Something Kind for Others
It has been shown that doing something nice for other helps boost your own happiness. It doesn’t have take a lot of time and can be a random act of kindness like buying lunch for the person behind you in line, donating to your local food pantry or coat drive.
Express Gratitude
It is easy to just focus on getting the next thing on your list completed but try to take note of the simple pleasures in life. Try to be in the moment and be grateful for things such as an unexpected email from a friend, a particularly delicious cup of coffee or hearing that song you forgot you loved on the radio. Taking these small moments to be grateful is associated with increased optimism, enthusiasm and energy.
Spend Your Time Wisely
You may not realize it but time is your most precious commodity. Money and objects may come and go, but time can never be replaced or replenished. Choose to invest your time in activities that are important to you like connecting with friends and family or working towards your goals.
Cut Back on Screen Time
Technology is amazing, it lets you to have “face time” with distant relatives and scroll through facebook to see what everyone is doing. Remember though to look up from the screen and engage with the world and the people around you. Be mindful and limit the time you spend just browsing through webpages and checking emails from home.
