Planning to rent or borrow a trailer to store business property during a remodel? Need a trailer for that upcoming office move? Or just looking for some extra space to help transport equipment to job sites?
Renting or borrowing a trailer may pose a number of insurance risks. For example:
• Coverage for items you store inside a trailer may be limited or excluded by your business insurance.
• Coverage for property inside a trailer that is damaged in an auto accident may be limited or excluded by your business insurance.
• Coverage for damage to the trailer itself, which you may have agreed to provide when signing a rental contract, may be limited or excluded by your business insurance.
If your business has a commercial auto policy, depending on the type of trailer you intend to use, that policy may be amended to cover the trailer itself but will normally not cover damage to your possessions inside it.
Trailers come in many different shapes and sizes, and appropriately insuring them and their contents can be tricky. Make sure your policy provides adequate coverage before moving forward.
